We spent a month at the beach and while fun, we were ready to go back to the Texas Hill Country, and then head further north. We picked an amazing RV park – Rio Guadalupe Resort. It’s right on the Guadalupe River, so you can fish, kayak, canoe, and tube right next to your campsite! They also have tube and kayak rentals that we should have taken advantage of, but it was fun seeing others use them.
They have a community center with fast wifi, but I loved sitting outside on the patio, watching birds and looking at the water. I also got to see this family of geese grow up!
While in town, we went on a beautiful walk on the Guadalupe River Trail. We got a little lost but it was totally worth it for the serene views.
Right across the road from the trail is the Vekeda Real Walkway. It’s about a mile walk across the dam, with amazing views of Canyon Lake. It was pretty great walking across such a high walkway while being totally comfortable!
We spent two months in Canyon Lake, mainly because the weather was so bad the first month that we didn’t get to do much! We finally got to see friends and family again which was awesome, and do something we’d been wanting to do for months – buy a bigger RV. We had been living in a very small 17′ foot RV that was literally a bathroom, bed, and couch, and boy were we ready for some room.
Figuring out which RV to get wasn’t easy since there are so many options, but we did have some items on our ‘must have’ list. First, we wanted a layout that had two separate seating areas, and a separate work area from our bed. Sounds simple, right? Well, for 10 months we worked and slept on the same surface! haha So yes, having a separate living area was so important for us.
Second, we wanted something that wasn’t crazy long, but that we could feel comfortable in. We still want to go through the mountains, boondock in parks, and maybe even off-road, so we didn’t want anything too huge. Plus, we needed something that our truck could easily tow. We also wanted a slide out to give us more walking space so we don’t have to bump into each other. Extra stuff we wanted: an oven, bigger fridge, and more counter space. Basically, we wanted to be comfortable!
Here is our new beauty, a 2021 Jayco Jay Feather 24RL. The layout is amazing, the bathroom is a good size, and look at all that floor space in the living room!
Sufficed to say, we’re very happy with our new home. We even have a mini fridge on the outside of the RV! We haven’t used it yet, but still, it’s pretty fun to have it when we want it haha
