The Most Gorgeous Colorado Drive

Colorado scenery truly doesn’t disappoint. After Rueben and I spent a fun two weeks in Cripple Creek, CO, we decided to stay closer to Rocky Mountain National Park and booked an RV resort in Granby, CO. The drive there was about three hours long and breathtaking!

We took CO-9, a stretch of highway from in Central Colorado that goes through Breckenridge. It’s winding, up and down in altitude, and gorgeous.

I honestly couldn’t believe the views. I wasn’t expecting to see the Rockies almost in their entirety, and Rueben got to see his first bison!

We drove through Breckenridge which is as beautiful as people say, but so crowded! We couldn’t believe how many people were walking around all the shops on the main strip; it was way too much for us haha

We’ve gotten pretty used to staying in small towns, so driving through crowded places like Breckenridge is a little weird! We loved our weekend in Colorado Springs with convenient shopping, good restaurants, and lots to do, but a quiet, smaller town that’s close to all that would be perfect for us.

The drive on CO-9 has a lot of switchbacks, which are zig zag roads that go up steep hillsides. They’re really sharp turns, and doing that in a long truck while towing a long RV is pretty scary! Rueben did a pretty awesome job navigating those roads, though, something he picked up on our trip to Pikes Peak.

At one point Rueben pulled over on the side of the road to let people pass us, so I took the opportunity to get out and smell the fresh air and take some photos. The only photo he really wanted on our trip was of our set up with mountains in the background. I think I delivered pretty well!

Since we were at higher altitude, the weather changed a bit. Rainy, sunny, foggy – it was all beautiful

As we got closer to Granby, we got really excited about how close to the mountains we were. Where we stayed was only about 20 minutes from Rocky Mountain National Park which was so awesome! It was pretty amazing being so close to the mountains; I honestly could not get over how gorgeous everything was.
