Since we were staying SO close to an entrance of Rocky Mountain National Park, we had to go more than once in the two weeks we stayed in Granby, CO. The second time we went we didn’t take the entire route to Estes Park, but did take Trail Ridge Road again because it’s just so darn pretty! Plus, now that Rueben had a little experience driving it, this time he could actually enjoy the scenery more.
The weather was amazing. Such gorgeous blue skies!
Elk!
This guy started to bolt in front of us, and did a very quick u-turn back to his ladies.
There are plenty of scenic pullovers to enjoy the view, and this one was special because look at all that below!
Continental Divide, which separates the watersheds of the Pacific Ocean from those of the Atlantic Ocean. The lake was still frozen in June!
Even though we had traveled on Trail Ridge Road already, it’s just too magnificent not to drive again, No wonder it’s such a popular drive in Rocky Mountain National Park.

The winding roads can be a little scary, but the vast, snow capped mountains are so worth it.
And then the best thing happened…
MOOSE! We had luckily already seen a few, but this one was close and in such a glorious area!
I mean…
I sat there for a long time (ask Rueben), just snapping away with a group of people, all of us in awe of the beauty of this majestic lady.
This was my third visit to Rocky Mountain National Park, and I can’t wait to go back.
Extra: Video of our drive!
Next up: the gorgeous drive to our next stop, Idaho Springs!
