Del Rio, TX Appreciation Post

I grew up in Del Rio, a town of about 40,000 people on the border to Mexico. My family and I would go to Mexico to eat at restaurants (Los Tacos Grill!) and shop, and in high school I would go with friends to the bars. It’s not the most exciting town, but we do have the great Lake Amistad, and Laughlin Air Force Base, where my parents retired from and where I worked a couple of summers.

I love visiting Del Rio. I always feel like it’s so much quieter, slower, and peaceful. I miss the festivals in the parks, and the amazing Tex-Mex at the local restaurants. I also love walking around San Felipe Creek and of course the lake.

Visiting family is obviously the best part of going back home. My parents, aunt and uncle, and cousins still live there and it’s so nice to be able to take a drive and spend time with them. And their crazy cats, too!

Next up – Colorado!!
